Come and learn something new at Fraser Rise Children’s & Community Centre, which is only 5 minutes from Westwood! Designed to bring the community together while promoting health, wellbeing and learning, its rotating program of activities and events offers something for all ages.
Through May and June, kids ages 6–12 can get moving and burn energy at Zumba Kids, which combines child-friendly dance routines with hip-hop music, Latin rhythms and modern beats. Alternatively, newborns to six-year-olds can enjoy a sensory experience at Hey Dee Ho Music Class, an educational music experience where children learn the concepts of beat, rhythm, tempo, pitch and dynamics in a play-based environment.
Adults can get their heart pumping too with Zumba Gold, a low-impact class for active older adults; or for a gentler pace, try yoga, with an online and senior program available. Both strengthen and promote flexibility in the body, and are suitable for all fitness levels.
For those who prefer to dabble in the arts, you can learn to play guitar with local resident Alan. Structured lessons will have you practising drills, basic guitar chords and scales so you can play a range of simple songs.
There are also several one-off events running throughout the term, such as Make Your Own Grazing Platter. This event on Saturday 3 June runs from 2.30–4.30pm and you will learn to design your very own platter made up of a delicious selection of cheeses, meats, dips, olives, dried fruits, nuts and more, run by local founder of Graze with Michelle. For just $30, all ingredients will be supplied and at the end of the workshop you can package up your platter in a take home grazing box to enjoy!
